The evolution from EPSNV to ESSAIA: A path of academic transformation


Founded in 2012, the mission of the École Préparatoire en Sciences de la Nature et de la Vie (EPSNV – Preparatory School of Natural and Life Sciences) in Algiers was to provide students with solid preparatory training in the biological and environmental sciences. Its purpose was to equip them with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed before pursuing specialized studies in various scientific disciplines.


Ho However, in pursuit of academic development and in response to the emerging needs of both the labor market and the agri-food industry, the school underwent a major transformation.By virtue of Executive Decree No. 17-81 of February 15, 2017, the EPSNV was upgraded to 5the École Supérieure des Sciences de l’Aliment et des Industries Agroalimentaires (ESSAIA –Higher School of Food Science and Agri-food Industries).
This transition has broadened training prospects by integrating specialized programs in food science and agri-food industries.
Today, ESSAIA plays a pivotal role in preparing highly qualified professionals for Algeria’sgrowing agri-food sector. The school offers modern infrastructure, a well-resourced scientificlibrary, and an incubator that fosters innovation and entrepreneurship.
ESSAIA is also deeply engaged in scientific research and maintains active collaborations with national and international institutions to promote academic excellence and technological innovation.
This transformation illustrates the adaptability of Algeria’s higher education system and its commitment to meeting the contemporary challenges of sustainable development and the agri food industry. ESSAIA continues to welcome motivated students eager to contribute to the advancement of Algeria’s agri-food sector and to take on the scientific challenges of the future.
